Alright, so this coming December/January (when I move out of Kalifornia and back to a real state) I will be purchasing a pistol for my wife and a new weapon for myself. I currently own the following:

Pistols:
Sig P250C 9mm
Ruger .38 Special/357 Magnum revolver
Colt 22
Black Powder Revolver (built by my grandpa)

Rifles:
Winchester lever action 30-30
Remington bolt action 7mm mag

What I want:
M4/AR-15
AR-10
Sig P226 - 9mm
Sig P229 - .40 S&W
Sig P250 2SUM - 9mm (to go with my 250 compact)

Not sure if I should go with a fun rifle, or a new pistol. I thought about purchasing the 250 2SUM for "my wife" as a win win, but she has her heart set on a Pink Taurus that she saw at Academy last time we were in Texas. Opinions?

I would vote for the AR15. What State are you moving to?

I know they are not on your list, but I see two missing that are a must. First choice would be a good .22LR for cheap plinking. You can get a Ruger 10/22 for $200 and then customize it all you want. Or you could go the AR22 route with a Sig 522, S&W AR15-22, ect.

Second "need"RollEyes is a 1911 in .45ACP or 9mm. It's a must have in any stable. Again, very easy to customize and parts are available everywhere.

BTW, congratulations on the move out of hellifornia!

My dad has a .22 rifle that he will give me. I need to pick it up. But, I do want to buy a single shot .22 rifle for my kids to start learning with. As far as a 1911 goes, that is a good call. I eventually want to get a .45 so that may have to be it.... eventually. I plan to collect a lot of firearms, but I also plan to shoot them all.

A shotgun would be nice but I don't bird hunt and prefer a pistol for home defense. I will eventually pick one up for fun though. I think that my next weapon is going to be an AR-15.
