I want to get a P250 in 9mm compact. I am hearing that there are two different styles of frames, and they do not share mags. How do I know which is which? what are the differences? There is no info on the SIG website.

Read this: http://www.sigsauer.com/...ACT%20GRIP%20CHANGE.pdf

I am hearing that the only difference between the old and new style magazines is the floorplate, and of course, the floorplate is easily changed.

I've run into some old style P250s 9mm compacts-one was at a gun show and the other was a a local gun shop. The one at the gun shop is $480-it has two mags, night sights amd has had only about 100 or so rounds fired. The shop does layaways. Should I go for the old style frame or hold out for a new style one?

It seems like here in Wis. its hard to find a deal on any gun. I was just in a Gander MT today and they had an old style 250 compact 2 tone on sale for 599:(
So if you can get one for that price I'd go for it!

If I get an old style grip module I can change it out to the new style and still use the slide, correct? It looks as though that might be down the road, but I just want to make sure I don't paint myself into a corner.

It's up to you and how much money you have to spend. I purchased one with the old grip module and wanted to try out the small size. According to Sig they no longer stock the old style or the old style magazines. I ordered the small module plus three new magazine base plates to work with the module. After trying both out I personally like the old style better. I wish I could find a small in the old style. The good thing about starting out with the older one is that you can get the new and have the best of both words. Just remember that you will have to buy the new base plates at around $5 ea. Hope this helped you out.

Yes it did, Amgel7. Thanks. BTW, the one in the LGS (which was used) was sold so I'm back to looking. The other LGS in the area that I frequent (as it has an indoor pistol range) carries SIGs but they're on their "Summer" schedule and are closed Sunday and Monday-my days off! I'm looking more and more at Top Gun Supply-$400 for a compact 9mm (old style) is looking pretty nice to me. The other alternative is Academy-$500 for a new style, IIRC.

This correct; I have both and its just a matter of changing the floorplates. The slide is not an issue.
