I bought a p250 compact in .40 (old grip style) a while back and had nothing but trouble with it from the first time I took it to the range. Failure to feed rate was about 1 in every 7 rounds; failure to eject rate was about 1 in every 30 rounds. After contacting SIG they suggested it was most likely a problem with the brand of ammo I was using (165g Winchester white box). On my next range trip I brought 6 different brands with me ranging from the previously mentioned Wal-mart special to Hornady XTP hollow points. There was no difference in performance between any of these brands.

I got back in touch with SIG and they sent me a prepaid label to send it in for repair. About two weeks later they called me back saying they will replace the weapon. They refused to comment on the exact issues they found with it.

I received a replacement about 3 months later (yesterday). The replacement was the new grip style; there are also many modifications to both the fire control unit and the upper unit.

The FCU now has two tabs on the rear that seat into the grip. The trigger bar assembly appears to be slightly narrower than the older model I sent in. Also, the trigger will not engage the hammer unless the slide is present. With only the slide removed you have to put a slight pressure on the face of the hammer for trigger to actuate the hammer; I can only guess this is a new safety feature that does not allow the gun to fire if the firing pin spring is damaged or missing. As for the upper unit, the recoil spring and rod appear to be shorter than my older model. The extractor also appears to be different.

I brought the new gun to the range today and went through 450 rounds of ammo (4 brands of varying quality). I experienced no failures of any type. Accuracy was also greatly improved over my past experiences with the p250.

It looks as if SIG finally got the bugs worked out of the p250 chambered in .40!

I was slightly annoyed that it took them so long to get me a replacement, but it appears to have been worth the wait as the new gun appears to have been completely re-engineered and actually works as it should!

Wow, 3 months only to have the entire weapon replaced. Too bad they didn't do that when you first sent it.
Nonetheless, they did you right. Great company.
Sounds like you like the new frame. How different is the feel from the original?

I don't really notice much difference at all in the frame except for the mag-well changes. And for the mags, they are not interchangeable with the old grip style, but the old grip style mags can be converted to the new style by changing only the floorplate (SIG will be shipping me these at no cost to convert my old mags).

Most of the changes were in the upper and FCU.

SIG contacted me within a week of returning it saying that they would replace, but there was a backorder. Seeing the new design I think they may have changes manufacturing facilities, as the slide assy. is no longer marked as being from the Exeter plant.

That makes sense. They seem to be responsive and quick.

Sorry about your issues-my older compact has been really good-it just hates the double crowned UMC for some reason. It'll eat WWB or Federal fmj all day long, and it loves good JHP. I had my brother polish the barrel and the ramp. I also have the a new fullsized 40 and I can do a back to back comparison. To add to your notes, I did notice that the action on the newer gun was a tad crisper as well, and the hammer has a cosmetic bevel plus the fullsized feed ramp was polished from the factory. I just noticed that these guns need to gun a little wet. Liberal lube/grease is needed for the rails, then again there is a lot of metal moving on those tiny tabs. Sig CS has improved. I had to send my compact slide back for a dimming rear night sight. They sent the RMA, and said 3 weeks. 2 weeks later presto its here. I had a malfunctioning STL900L where the laser cuts out after each shot, sent back and got back one within a week. I'm thinking of stocking up on the fullsized mags because they work great on the compact as well.
