Does anyone know what should be considered a reasonable price for a lightly used (less than 300 rounds fired) used P250 .45 compact? I've looked around on the web and it seems to be a difficult thing to run down. They are selling new ones here for about $650-$750.

I would say $550 (max) would be fair with one mag. You could add $25-$35 for each extra mag.

Make sure it has Nitesites and shoot it if you can before you buy it.
BTW, I would start at $475 and you may be able to get it for $500.

It does have night sights. The only questionable thing noticed was that the feed ramp looks a bit black. It may just be some baked-on fouling. I don't think this would be a deal breaker. The gun looks clean and well lubes otherwise. Any ideas on why the ramp would look that way other than fouling?

The feed ramp on my 250 is black. I think it has been that way since day one. I have cleaned it very well and it stays that way. If it bothers you, just polish it off with a dremel. You should be fine.

What type of polishing wheel do you use? Something pretty soft I would imagine.

They make a cone shaped wool-like "bit". You could probably use some light grit paper to get started. I would think 800 grit or finer would be okay. Don't sand too much. I personally would just clean it real good and let it be. If you shoot it like you should the bullets will take care of the issue. I am around the 1000 mark and it's still dark.

Thanks. If I pick it up I'll probably see what I can do to get it clean by hand rather than going at it with the Dremel. Anything else that I should look at when buying a used handgun? I've always bought new ones previously. I won't be able to test fire it, so I'm going to have to go on appearances.

You should be fine in this case. I would find out the reason why he want's to sell it. If it's a money thing I would be more confident in the purchase and could probably get a better deal. Also, the 250 in .45 hasn't been out that long so that betters your odds. On top of that, it's a Sig.

When I buy a used gun, the first thing I look at (after I make sure it's not loaded) is to see how clean it is. I ask them if I can do a field strip and if it is clean in the hard to reach areas that is a + in my book. Look for any cracks, feel if the trigger is "gritty" and try to manually cycle some snap caps by racking it. Make sure there is not alot of slop with the slide and look for any unusual wear. Since you have new guns you know about how much you have shot them and the wear that it has cuased. When you look at a used gun that should help determine how much it has been shot. If they say they shot 500 rounds but it looks like they shot 2500, that tells me they are either lieing, didn't clean it properly or it was not lubricated properly.

Just buy it already.Laugh ThumpUp

Great advice. I'll post an update once I'm done. Thanks again!
