Wasn't real sure where to put this so I figured I would stick it here since I was cleaning the P250 when I decided to do this. (Hawk it might be a good idea to create a section called P250 Talk, or something like that, where we can discuss other stuff besides maintenance, issues or accessories.)

I love the black P250, I'm not real fond of the camo look, but I wanted to dress it up a little so I decided to polish the barrel, mag release button, slide catch lever and take-down lever. I want to do the trigger too but I haven't dared tear into it far enough that I can remove the trigger. I also added a stainless steel guide rod to it too, I should of took a picture of it but I forgot.

Anyways here's what it looks like now. I like it, what do you think?

I look forward to reading what ya think.

Thanks for looking,
Shane

Sweet!! Good job Shane. Now you have to post how you did it. I will add a P250 General Talk forum. Good suggestion.

Yes, beautiful job isn't it. He should tell us how he accomplished it, that would be great.

Wow, that is awesome. Love it!
Yeah, I'm curious about the process too. I love how the 9mm Para stands out on the barrel.
Do you think it would affect the longevity of the parts that are now polished?
Finally, did you get your guide rod from Steve Bedair?

Hey, how did you get the fly to stay there for the macro shot?? Laugh
BTW, from one photographer to another, your lighting is impeccable. ThumpUp

Thanks for the comments everyone .. I appreciate them. Glad ya like it!

It is really quite easy to do. Just hit it with a bench top buffer or a dremel with some tripole and white diamond buffing compound. The barrel I had to hit with some 1200 and 2000 grit paper to remove the blueing first, then polish it, just be careful not to remove any steel. The whole thing took maybe 30 minutes to do. To protect the bare metal I gave it a couple of coats of renaissance wax. I have been using this stuff for years when I restore old woodworking machines. It's great stuff and does a great job of protecting the metal.

Thanks equality72521. I just shot these outside in the shade with a diffuser and the light reflecting off of the white siding of the house. Does a nice job, but I had to kick down the contrast to keep the polished metal from blowing out and still get good detail on the black. I am having a hard time getting the color right, I just got a laptop and the color looks great on it, but when I look at the pics with my home PC the colors are too warm and saturated. Still need to do some fine tuning with the monitor calibration. The damn fly was driving me nuts, every time I would set up a shot it would land on the gun ...lol.
Yes I did get the rod from Steve. Great guy to deal with. Even though he was preparing for the hurricane, he still got it shipped to me within a couple of days of paying him.

Nice gun Shane. Just curious, did you polish the entire barrel or just the chamber? Hope you could post pics of the polished barrel. Planning to have mine polished. The blue of my barrel is fading away.

Hawk here's a pic of the nekkid barrel ...
The top looks ruff in this pic but it's not, it's like a mirror, I think it's part of the ceiling ya can see reflecting in it.

Here's a couple of pics I took showing how I did it.

First I rub it over some very fine wet/dry 2000 grit paper to remove the blueing.

Then I hit it with the buffer with various polishing compounds.

It only takes a few minutes to get it nice and shiney like the first pic above BigGrin

Sweet. Always good to see some nekkid pics Drool !!
Did you think about doing the tip of the barrel? I think with the tip shiny along with the metal spring guide being shiny (not blued) would be pretty cool looking.

Sweet, did you ever get around to doing the tip of your barrel? You think any of this voids any warranty?

Did a polish job on mine this morning. 9mm and 40 barrels, slide release, and take-down lever. No use in posting pics, as there are already so many on here already. ThumpUp

After putting everything back together, I am thinking about polishing the other end of the take-down lever, so that there's a polished part on the opposite side of the frame. Almost did the trigger, but am going to go with what I have for now while I think about that. May also get around to the hammer when I get to the point of cleaning the gun to that extent.

A question for those that have done this so far.... with regard to the back end of the barrel, on the bottom, below the port and in front of the ramp... some people polish that and some don't. Is there a concern for that impeding the intended mechanics of the firing of the gun? If not, will the finish being removed from there prompt premature wear? So... I suppose I'm asking the pros and cons of polishing that area.

edit: I'd polish the mag release if I could manage to figure out how to break-down that part. lol! Blushing

I knew I had seen a pic of some polished parts... I just couldn't remember where.

I didnt polish the entire take down lever, I felt more factory finish is better than nothing.
I polished some of my barrel, Only what will be seen, Just to keep some sort of finish on it, Again, For posible rust prevension(I hope it will never come to that) Its just what I did.
Slide release, Use a paperclip and push it into the hole on the right hand side of the frame, It should release the plastic part that holds it together.
Good luck
Have fun.

oops, meant to say the mag release. figured that one out. it needs a paperclip too. lol!

I did pick up a punch set and that comes in VERY handy for the slide catch lever pin.

so while I was at it, I did polish the mag catch, the mag catch stop and the far end of the takedown lever - which adds a little balance to the appearance.

this is a very cool look and not too much trouble to do. it makes the gun a little more personal and getting hands on the parts helps to manage a better understanding of the function.
