p250 old style compact WILL NOT convert to new style

I have 2 original style compacts. They came with the medium size grip shell.
I bought a SMALL - compact "new" grip shell, but get this; you can't put
the old take down lever into the new grip. The lever "O" ring is too big.
The new grip shells have a smaller diameter hole and the orginal takedown
lever does not go in all the way. WHAT TO DO?
Should you ream out the hole so it fits or just sell all the old style guns
and buy new ones?
