How many of you guys actually follow the gun carry "rules"? A good quality holster, ammo/ mag carrier, and a good sturdy belt. Ill be honest, I have the first two but the belt I dont have. Been looking around online and narrowed my search down to two companies. CrossBreed and Wilderness Tactical. Do any of you guys have a gun belt that you would reccommend? Leather or Nylon?

I have a great holster but don't have spare magazine carriers or a fancy belt. I've tried on some of the specialty belts and didn't find them any better than a well-made thick leather one. Mine is a mechanic-style leather belt without the buckle so if I'm leaning over anything it doesn't scrape against the paint. I haven't looked at either of the ones that you mentioned. As far as extra mags, jacket or pant pocket suits me fine.

I have a belt from the Beltman (thebeltman.net) and I love it. It really makes the whole thing a lot easier and it's the nicest belt I've ever had. For me, it's been a game changer. That said, as long as you practice your draws and reloads from however you carry enough to do it under stress, and you feel comfortable enough to actually carry all the time, whatever works for you is right. :)
If you're having trouble, though, getting everything to be comfortable to keep it up every day, or being able to draw reliably, try a good belt (Wilderness instructors belt 5-stitch or a crossbreed are just fine) and I'll bet it works out for you.

Mine is a Don Hume. I bought it slightly used, but in great shape and at a great price. I woudn't go back to a regular belt, ever. They tend to sag and cut into your hip.

Are the belts you guys are using thicker in the depth of leather to make them firmer than an ordinary belt or do they have some kind of insert that makes them less wimpy than a mass-produced belt?

Mine is just thicker. It gives plenty of support. I like the 1 1/2" because it fits all my belt loops. 1 3/4" can be too tight. As long as it's at least 1/4" thick (and not too cheap) you should be fine. I think the brand of mine is Boston. It was around $30. I bought it at a local LEO store called Kelly Tactical. They are one of the few Crossbreed holster dealers.

Im comfortable with the Dickies belt that I have but at the sametime was wondering if a thicker belt would help with the sagging part of the gun and holster. Im not a slim guy and that spare tire that I carry tends to push the gun out just alittle. Ill wear a shirt tucked into my pants with either OWB or IWB, then Ill have a button up shirt on to cover the gun and mag carrier. Just really wondering if getting a gun belt would help keep the gun closer to me or would it be the same as anyother belt.

Agreed, that sagging is exactly what a gun belt takes care of.

I have 2 dedicated gun belts, a nylon model which i think Wilderness Instructors belt or something like that and a leather no-name I got from a local gun shop. I'm more likely to carry a backup gun than an extra magazine though.
For me it doesn't make a huge difference in a light weight gun but when I carry a fullsize 1911 its night and day.
Edited to add: In regard to holsters I don't skimp but I have yet to go the custom route. I use the comp-tac MTAC for just about everything IWB and something from DeSantis or Galco for the OWB. Going to these holsters from something like Uncle Mikes was a bigger difference for me than the belt.

Pants with big pockets come in handy for that .357 of mine. My wife wants her carry permit too, so that will take some weight off of me.
