Hey guys glad to join you here on the forum. I have been reading through the topics and decided to post. I have wanted to buy a handgun for years but had to wait to turn 21. That day finally came this past summer and since then I have been all over trying to decide what my first handgun purchase will be. I have gone from getting a Springfield 1911 to a Beretta 92fs. I have been reading alot about the sig p250 and seems like its a very good gun. I have shot handguns quite a bit before so im not a newbie when it comes to that. But I want to know if the p250 is a good gun for a first time buyer. I keep hearing about some issues and I was hoping someone could give me their honest opinion. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone!

The 1911 single action (SA) trigger is very nice and crisp. The Beretta 92fs double action (DA)/single action (SA) setup with decocker is also very nice. The P250 trigger pull will be less than that of the Beretta 92fs DA but more than the 1911 and 92fs SA. I am very happy with the P250 platform and IMO think you can not go wrong with it as a first firearm. Whatever platform you choose, set aside money for ammo and taking an introductory defensive use of firearm class. The ammo and range membership will cost some money, but there is a saying and that is "beware of the man with one gun, because he probably knows how to use it". Good luck with your choice!

I've shot the beretta a few times with my cousin and I always loved it. But the sig just seems like an overall solid gun. I would definately go with the 9mm model. Thanks for your input. Is there any benefit to going with the nitron coating versus the regular black finish on the slide? I noticed some people talk about wearing and heat blotches on the slide. Does the nitron finish help prevent this?

I used a Beretta 92 in the academy and have never had an issue with it, IMO it is a fine firearm.

Also IMO re: finishes, I like the nitron but with that said, a firearm (especially the first one) is a tool and I like my tools to look well worn but 100% reliable. I like the patina of a used gun BigGrin

Thanks for your input! I just went up to my local gun range and they have a p250 for rent. So I think I'm gonna have to try it out for sure. I look forward to shooting it.

The p250 is my first handgun. I bought it last year and I love it, mostly for the extremely smooth trigger pull. I have let other people shoot it and they always anticipate the spring tension, but it's not there. There is no slack before the pull, which I love. But, if you can shoot any gun before buying it I would.

well I was able to rent the gun from my local range and I put 100 rounds of winchester 9mm luger through it. Trigger took some getting used to but after a few mags i was grouping relatively well. I loved everything about it! I am definitely going to be buying this gun soon. The gun I shot was a compact. They have a good deal right now where you can get the 2sum pack of a fullsize and a subcompact for right around 750. Was wondering if anyone picked this up or if you think its worth picking up. All you have to do is swap out the trigger mech between the guns.

If you buy the package you will probably find that one will work better for you and the other will end up sitting around. Mine is the compact version and is perfect for me.

I would wait until they come with a Compact and Sub Compact package instead of the Full/Compact.

I just want the damn .22 conversion that I dream about.

My husband had the Beretta 92fs. I just purchased the P250 Subcompact and I like it better. I like the trigger pull and it just "fits" me better.
