Was looking on sig store at mags for 9mm compact. Came across a mag listed as for original grip and one listed as for new style grip with the note attached to item description. News to me.

Notice that original mags will not fit in new style grips and vice versa. WTF?

To me this is initially bad for two reasons - one: I bought some mags with the pistol, two: I bought a small size grip for my compact. Now obviously I have original style everything as it all fit together but I can see this being a real pain in the rear when shopping and a lot of people buying one or the other and not realizing they made a mismatch at the time of purchase. I guess they did this though so that all caliber exchange kits work with a uniform grip system and magazine style. Correct thing in the long run. But I guess if you invested in a lot of original style mags and then a couple years down the road can only find a new style grip module you are going to be SOL. Unless the only thing different is the floorplate which is what I can tell from the pictures.

Would it have not made sense to adjust the .45 module in some way so that it matched all the pistols sold in 9mm .40 and .357sig? Maybe not possible but I'm guessing there's a lot more 9mm and .40 compacts running around out there than .45.

15-Round magazine for the SIG SAUER® P250 Compact chambered in 9mm. Fits the new grip style.

Please note:

The P250 Compact grip module (grip plastic) for 9mm / .40S&W / .357SIG has changed to match other P250 grips (Compact .45 and all Full Size calibers).

The two grips (original and new style) use different magazines - the two magazines are NOT interchangeable.

We will maintain inventory of both magazine types to accomodate customer requirements.

Please go the the Product Update page for more information on how to identify the differences between the grips and selecting the correct magazine for your pistol.

This change only effects P250 Compact in 9mm, .40S&W & .357SIG.. Other P250 models are not effected.

I guess to put it in perspective you might find yourself in this sitch:

I bought the P250 compact plus 2 mags. Then I bought a small grip module.
So it ran about $70 for the mags and $40 for the module. Give or take. ($110)

Now if I decide to "upgrade" my small grip to the new style which to me makes sense before I go and buy a bunch more mags...

I'm looking at $40 for the new style grip then more mags. Then of course the new style mags won't work with the medium old style grip module the pistol came with (if i ever decide to put it back on)

and the extra old style mags I already purchased won't work with the new style grip module. Also if you're buying a new P250 you better make sure what style grip module is on the pistol before you reach over

to the display rack and grab a couple extra mags to go with it. Groan.

More Info From Sig Product Alerts:

Looks like it might also complicate things if you have a holster made to fit the "old" style grip module. Also if you download the PDF about holsters on the product alert page the ends of the guide rods look different. Unless that's just two different caliber models they are showing.

http://www.sigsauer.com/CustomerService/Product-Alerts.aspx

Notice:

The P250 Compact grip module (grip plastic) for 9mm / .40S&W / .357SIG has changed to match other P250 grips (Compact .45 and all Full Size calibers).
Design changes include the following:

- The accessory rail is changed from the curved style to a flat M1913 Picatinny style
- The grip texture features more aggressive stippling, and replaces the ridged texture featured on the front and back strap areas

This change took effect for new production in November 2009. The original grip style will no longer be available.
This change impacts two accessory items -

Magazines
- The two grip types use different magazines - the two magazines are NOT interchangeable.

- SIG SAUER will make both magazine types available to accomodate customer requirements.

Holsters
- The original P250 Compact paddle retention holster will ONLY fit the original (curved rail) grip. The new M1913 accessory rail models will not fit this holster.

- Two new holster models, one for P250 Full Size (all calibers) and one for P250 Compact (all calibers), are near completion and will be listed as soon as they are available.

Downloadable information, with detailed images showing the differences between grips, are shown below. Please familiarize yourself with this information before ordering magazines or holsters for the P250 Compact (9mm, .40S&W, .357SIG) to ensure you select the right accessories for your pistol.

The "old" style small grips will become harder to find, and the "new" style may be delayed getting on the market...

But I just managed to buy a small (old) style from Express Police Supply in Lenexa KS <http://www.ombexpress.com/> for around $35... they may have a few more in stock.

I just got my old style small grip module and love the way it feels. It took alot of searching but was lucky enough to find one. I had alot of mags that I just didn't want to have to replace. Maybe I'll try a short tirgger next. This gun has just about everything I've wanted in a gun, now all I have to do is become a better shooter!

Ok, so I have a pre-grip change compact in 9 and a post grip change subcompact in 9 and I took the compact mag and inserted it into the subcompact and it went "click". While I didn't run any rounds through the subcompact with the compact mag, it seems to me it should work and not be a problem...hence exactly what did Sig change on the mags for the new grip assemblies???Confused

From photos it looks like the mag base plate is changed on the new compacts. If that's all there is then that would be great because you could just "upgrade" your existing mags with a new base plate. If that is the only difference, and if they sell them, and if that works. Speculation. :-) This whole thing though has kinda soured me on the P250 some. I keep wanting to like the pistol, and I do, but I feel like I beta tested it for Sig in some ways.
