Hey everybody.

I'm a little scared. I have cleaned my Sig twice since i got it months ago. Yes, twice, and I carry it outside with me all the time. I looked at the back of the hammer today and I can see the gunk on it OhMyGod. No one throttle me, please.

Cleaning it scares the crap out of me and I don't think that I know what I'm doing half the time.

First, I'm always afraid that my bronze bore cleaner will scratch up my barrel Scared, as it takes some force to get it in there and turn with the rifling. The bore cleaner's package did say that it was 9mm, so it should fit. Maybe I'm just being paranoid about it?

Second, I use Hopper's #9. Is that pretty good for the P250?

Third, the rear sight seems to be rusting a little, but I have taken great pains to keep it from getting wet and neither the car nor my apartment has issues with moisture. I run the air conditioning in both constantly, but I don't think that would have anything to do with it. Confused

Anyway, if someone could please help relieve my fears without making me feel more like the unresponsible gun-owning moron I am ThumbDown that would be great!

You will be fine.

I use #9 too. I use a brass brush for my bore but you will have to run it thour several times to get it clean. I will first run a couple of patches through that are soaked with #9. Then I wil run the brush through about 10 times. I repeat this untill the patches come out clean. This can take 30 minutes itself, depending on the ammo you shoot.

As for the "gunk" on the striker, take out the firing mechinism and spray it down with GunScrubber or something similar. You can also use your #9 and an old toothbrush. Get it spotless. After I get it clean I will blow it out with an air compressor or you can use a dry lint free cloth.

To clean the slide I use the #9 on patches to clean the rail grooves and around the chamber. Try not to get anything in the hole about the firing pin. Keep that area free of oil too, except for a very light amount that you will wipe off.

After it's all clean, I oil and grease it.

I would call Sig about your sites. They should not have any rust on them at all, or anywhere on you gun for that matter.

Good luck and be safe.

Well, by "gunk" I just meant that I haven't cleaned it in a while, so it has a bit of dirt and grime on it. Nothing that a good cleaning won't cure. What perplexes me the most is the sights. They are only rusting in the little perpendicular corners. The rest of it is fine. I'll call Sig and see what they have to say, though. Thanks for the info!

If you carry daily it will get dirty. I carry my Glock 23 daily in a Fobus paddle holster with my shirt untucked. About once a week I strip it down and clean it. You would be surprised by the dust bunnies that accumulate. They get everywhere, from in the barrel to in the trigger bar/ejector module.

I'm such a lazy butt, lol. I never realized that just carrying it in your clothes provided so much work later on. It's worth having the option of action, though, should anything take place. Can't put a price on security, imo.

When people ask me why I carry a gun I tell them " I would rather have a gun and not need it, than need a gun and not have it."

The best answer that I have to sheeple when they ask me why I carry a pistol is this: "I have responsibilities that I take seriously, and they require me to be armed."

I have that little rust at the left junction of the sights and slide. I think it's because of the salt in my sweat when I wear the pistol at the 2 o'clock position. A toothbrush and break free cleans it right off for me.
