Is the P320 FCU different for 9mm/.40/.357 and .45?

I've been told that the FCU for the 9mm/.40/.357 differs from the FCU for the .45.

Makes me question as to whether this is accurate, as it seems that this reduces the interchangeability feature of the P320.

Can someone clarify?

Thanks,

Dom

The FCU for a P320 in .45 (on the left in the photo below) is different from one for 9mm/.40/.357 (on the right in the photo below).

At a minimum, the takedown safety levers are different. SIG designed the P320 so that turning the takedown lever would automatically decock the striker, eliminating the need to pull the trigger for takedown as is required for many striker-fired pistols. The design requires the magazine to be removed from the gun before the takedown lever can be turned. In short, the takedown safety lever is not supposed to be able to move if a magazine is left in the gun. The P320 uses one takedown safety lever for longer (front to back) .45 magazines and a different takedown safety lever with a protruding tab for shorter 9mm/.40/.357 magazines. The tab on the takedown safety lever for 9mm/.40/.357 magazines protrudes far enough into the magazine well that it prevents the insertion of .45 magazines.

Thanks for taking the time to clarify this. It is unfortunate that Sig could not carry through on their interchangeability on the P320. You saved me from making an expensive mistake!

I can't claim credit for the photo, which I encountered on the internet some time ago. The original photographer certainly did an excellent job of comparing and contrasting the two types of P320 FCUs.
